Physical Description: Nearest to full body image from the official Anime.
History: Karma isn’t very open about his history, so what information we do have on him is seen through the eyes of his closest friend and the main protagonist, Nagsa. They’ve been in the same class since entering Kunugigaoka Junior High School. It’s no surprise that someone like Karma would join such a highly prestigious middle school due to his natural intellect. He’s never had problems with his studies and is high above the average student. Nagisa notes that in his second year Karma had started to act violently. At first this was overlooked by the teachers since his grades were so good. But then came a day where he protected a Class E student, and everything changed.
Class 3-E: Kunugigaoka Junior High is sectioned off into classes A-E which are ranked by education level. Class A being the best and brightest, and Class E being the lowest. But it’s not as simple as that. This school runs on a system that uses this E class, otherwise known as the END class, as a source of fear to strive further excellence from the other students. 3-E is forced into an old building separated from the main campus on a deserted mountain top. They are the brunt of everyones jokes and abuse, and are constantly used as the jesters at school events. Their despair and humiliation is the way to encourage the brighter students to excel. Class 3-E is also where problem students are placed. The teacher for such a class is often new, and forced to teach every subject. The only way to make it out of Class 3-E once you’re there is to enter the top 50 out of the roughly 200 students, and then be invited back by your past home room teacher.
Therefore, the school didn’t care if he beat up a bunch of End class losers, but what he did was damage their precious A class students in defense of a E reject. This wasn’t seen well in the eyes of the school, and he was therefore sentenced into E Class himself, but also suspended.
When he came back, things had changed. A super unknown being had taken over teaching the class, and the military had looked to the students of 3-E as their chance to finally stop this dangerous creature.
Korosensei and the Assassination Classroom: While Karma was still suspended, a national incident occurred. This incident was the explosion of the moon, forcing it to forever remain in a crescent shape. The one who took credit for this destructive force was a mysterious creature with numerous tentacles that could not be harmed by normal means and moved at Mach 20 speed. He came to the Japanese government and told them that he desired to teach, and that in March he would blow up the Earth. The only school that accepted this creature was Kunugigaoka who’s director saw it as a good way to make some money, and had the perfect place that supported the government's desire to keep it a state secret. And so Korosensei began to teach Class 3-E, and the students began to learn the ways of the assassin. Why? Because the government believed that the students would learn his weaknesses and patterns since they would be spending day after day with him. And with a 10 Billion yen bounty on his head, the End class easily accepted. And it just so happened he made a brilliant teacher.
Towards the end of his suspension the government approached Karma with the knowledge of this strange circumstance, and he couldn’t have been happier, especially after the betrayal of his last teacher.
From here on I’ll provide a simple timeline of events, since Karma entered the manga in Chapter 5 and continues to be a constant character since. More detail on how these events impacted him will be provided in the personality section.
Karma Time- Akabane Karma enters Class 3-E and is the first student to injure Korosensei. He manages to have the advantage for awhile, but once he’s caught the eye of the teacher he’s countered from there on and humiliated by being “groomed”. Grooming involved fixing his hair, putting decorative nail polish on him, and putting him in a frilling pink apron with a heart. Frustrated, Karma commits a desperate attempt to kill Korosensei as a teacher, diving backwards off a cliff side. If he dies his name as a teacher will be ruined, if he tries to save him he’ll shoot him with anti sensei bullets. In the end Korosensei even see’s through this and catches him in a webbing made of his own body. Karma is forced to accept this teacher, but is pretty open to the idea.
Pro Time- Karasuma, the head of the military force for the Japanese government joins as the class as the gym instructor and proceeds to teach them assassination methods. Along with him enters a pro assassin named Irina hired to kill korosensei. Being a foreigner and an expert in infiltration she takes up the English Language class, having mastered 10 languages herself. Due to her attitude when she first made her entrance the class proceeds to call her Bitch sensei. (Karma giving her the name)
Test Time- First test under these new educators. Wanting to see the fruits of his labour Korosensei tells the students that if they don’t all make it in the top 50 he will leave. It’s too soon for the class however, and many wind up failing to reach the goal, mostly after the school commits a dirty trick where they gave out tests with content that was taught solely in the main building by the Director. The only one who made it was Karma, who was placed 4th in the school. He called Korosensei a coward and convinced him to stay. Despite being welcomed into the main building he chose to stay in 3-E because it’s way more interesting.
Traveling Time- The class and their strange teachers go on a class field trip...of death. The students are challenged to make plans that will distract and bring Korosensei to easy spots where a trained sniper can take him out. All these plans fail, but the children still have a educational trip and a good time. Except for Karma’s group who get’s ambushed and three female classmates are kidnapped. Using the ridiculous guidebook for any moment that would ever come up, they locate their wayward classmates and with korosensei’s help, saves them.
Transfer Student Time- Enter in Ritsu, a battle ready AI built specifically for assassination. After the class gets annoyed with her disrupting their studies, due to her hail of bullets, they tape her up and she get’s a lesson in working together with everyone. She is given an upgrade and becomes friends with the class, and she realizes the value of teamwork. Even after her creators dismantle the additions she sneaks these lessons by and she becomes a great ally for their future endeavors.
Transfer Student Time 2nd Period- A while later another transfer student shows up by the name of Itona. He is a child that had tentacle cells implanted into his head and gives Korosensei the fight of his life. Still, he defeats the wayward Itona, but desires to keep him in the class. Itona rejects and him and his caretaker leave for the time being.
Training Time- The military sends a professional trainer by the name of Takaoka to the school. At first he’s friendly and cheerful, but things turn dark fast. His method of teaching is through constant work and fear. The class goes against him and he starts beating them. Finally Karasuma steps in and Takaoka presents the following challenge: choose your best student to take me down with a real knife in his hand. Karasuma chooses Nagisa, and although small and visually weak, he shows his natural ability for assassination and strikes terror into the adults heart. He’s then sacked by the director.
Terasaka’s Tme- Terasaka becomes irritated with the brighter attitude, and feels like an outsider in the class. To finish things, he teams up with Itona and his caretaker for their next assassination attempt. But he doesn't’ realize that he was also putting his classmates in terrible danger as well. He decides that even though he’s too dumb to create plans himself, he can at least choose who he’ll follow and decides from then on to follow Karma. The red head creates the perfect plan to stop Itona and save their classmates. Terasaka finds his place in the class.
Time for End of Semester- With this test the class is challenged once again by Korosensei, but this time it was in the form of an agreement. For all those students who make it in the top of each subject, they can shoot away one of his tentacles, slowing him down and forcing him to use up a mass amount of energy to regenerate. 7 students make it, four in home ec., and three taking first place in Science, English, and Social Studies. But Karma ends up slacking off and get’s 13th place, without a single top spot.
Frustration Time- He’s further humiliated by his faults being blatantly pointed out to him by Korosensei. But the teacher does this with the understanding that Karma will pick himself up and come out stronger then ever before. This is very true as will be described in the Personality section.
Go Time- Two challenges was actually presented during this previous test time. The second involving Class A. Each year Class A gets to go to an all expense paid private island vacation. The challenge was that whoever dominated more of the top spots in the main five subjects would get to demand one thing from the other. Class E won and demanded taking their place for this vacation. They thusly use it as a setting for an extreme assassination attempt and nearly kill korosensei. To save himself he compacts into an unbreakable sphere, although impenetrable he was also trapped this way for 24 hours.
Time for an Unusual Event- Suddenly half the class falls extremely ill, and the risk of death in near. They discover that someone was out for them, and that they could only cure the illness with an antidote located at the top of a hotel. The remaining, and the still useless sensei, go to save their classmates and pupils. There, they’ll face three pro assassins and then have to defeat the mastermind.
Karma Time 2nd Hour- After defeating the poison master, they run into the hand to hand professional assassin. Interested in his talents, Karma steps up and challenges the foe. Karasuma, although poisoned and unable to move, desires to stop Karma but is shushed by Korosensei who notices how serious his student was taking this battle. The prankster then proves how much he’s grown already, and having expected how seriously the professional would take the fight, counters and wins in the end. But then he also shows how he hasn’t changed at all and proceeds to torture him with wasabi and spiced mustard up his nose, and ghost peppers taped inside his mouth. :D
Takaoka Time- The class defeats the final assassin, the gun expert, and continues towards the mastermind. When they reach the top they realize the one behind everything was that insane trainer who desired to take revenge for his humiliation. Even crazier than before, he challenges Nagisa to a life or Death duel. Using what he learned from the man who trained Irina he once again shows his natural assassination ability and puts a stop to Takaoka, without taking his life. But he also shows his fearlessness which causes Karma to worry.
Ikemen Time- Class president Isogai was put into Class E after the school found out he had a part time job. Well, being poor and needing to aid his family financially he continues to work secretly. The top of the top ends up finding out about it and poses another challenge. They’ll keep quiet about Isogai’s secret part time job IF Class E beats them during the Bo Taoshi. Despite being outnumbered and Class A using sneaky methods as always, they utilize their learnt skills and superior teamwork to win the game.
Mistake Time- By this point the class is rather cocky, and now having become pretty good at freerunning, they decide to get some practice by going across the rooftops to the bus station. But they end up messing up and crashing into an old man on a bicycle. Despite only half the students having taken the risk, the entire class is taught a very necessary lesson. That their strength should be used to protect and help the weak. To teach this, they must take care of a small after school that helps teach young children for little to no money. They do above and beyond, but by the time their lesson in humility is done it’s time for their next test. The class, having lost their time to study, are mostly crushed….except for Karma who takes 2nd place, missing out on taking first by a single point.
Present Time- Due to how well they’re doing and the fact the training will be getting harder from here on out, Karasuma presents the class with some new state of the art gear. Light, effective, protective, these new suits are fireproof and can keep them unharmed from a high fall and deep water pressure. With these suits they show their new skills to their teacher and proceed to train even harder and try more dangerous techniques.
God of Death Time- Irina sensei is captured to draw in the students, the students are captured to draw in Korosensei and Karasuma. Korosensei is captured and both him and the students are going to be killed. Karasuma has to stop the greatest Assassin of all time before he can activate his death trap. Irina has to decide between being a hitwoman or a teacher, and choses teacher and helps Karasuma. The class uses their skills to trick the God of Death into thinking they escaped. He comes back to find them and he faces off against the military professional. An epic fight proceeds and with a little tentacle help Karasuma is able to defeat the pro and save everyone….although he wishes it could have just been the kids...sigh. Everyone goes home slightly traumatized.
Career Time- Karma and the class talk about their futures. The redhead reveals that he desires to be a bureaucrat after noticing in the aftermath of a terrible earthquake that even though the government was useless, the bureaucrats managed to keep things going and people could continue normally. Also it makes use of his skills of manipulation.
Time for End of Semester 2nd Hour- FINAL TEST ON EQUAL TERMS. A terrifying test that would give students in third rate colleges a hard time. Despite all efforts being put forth on both Class A and Class E’s side, the entire student body of End Class make it into the top fifty, and Karma beats out the director's son, and all around perfect person, Asano for the top place Booya..
Teacher Exam Time- Angered at the failing of his system, Director Asano threatens to fire korosensei and destroy the old building, casting the E class into a jail like structure with inhuman conditions. But all this can be stopped if Korosensei manages to make it past his own assassination attempt. Although he comes close to failing, he manages it and the two educators come to an understanding of each other. The school building and his job is saved.
------Cut---------
Time for a Play- One of the students reveals their true identity and tries to assassinate korosensei. Shocked by the discovery and her words of revenge the students question their past with her, and demand Korosensei reveal his own. He agrees but only when all of his students are together, including the actress. After an epic fight, Nagisa manages to calm her down and they remove the tentacles from her, saving her life.
Past Time- As promised Korosensei tells them about his history, and his identity as the original God of Death. We follow him as he describes his upbringing and his betrayal by his disciple, as well as his involvement in a secret lab. He talks about how their original homeroom teacher changed him, and made him desire weakness over strength. After she dies he promises her that he’ll teach her students and so Korosensei is born as he combines his knowledge as the ultimate assassin and everything he learned from the previous educator.
End of School Time, The Second Semester- As well as his current canon point. The class take this new knowledge and begin to register all that it means to take their sensei’s life, or allow the world to end. They think back on the time they shared and everything about their reality comes crashing down on them. But also new threats arise and it becomes obvious things are only going to get more difficult the closer March comes around. CAN THEY MANAGE IT? Start reading the manga now and find out.

Personality:
”A "gifted and talented" student means a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who exhibits high performance capability; possesses an unusual capacity for leadership; or excels in a specific academic field.”
From: angletonisd.net
This definition explains a lot of Karma’s earlier behavior and thought pattern. One major problem with talented students are that they are under challenged and have a tendency to lose interest, as well as develop a lack of study skills. Likely his parents put him in Kunugigaoka in order to give him a proper challenge and nurture these natural skills. However the school failed in the fact that the teacher in charge of Karma’s class instead of challenging him just boasted and praised him for what he did manage. The pride over this gifted student went so far that he was even willing to let Karma continue to get into violent fights so long as his grades continued to be good.
Since his current level was seen as superior and perfect as it was, he instead challenged himself on another level, one where he would have far more competition. This was on a physical level, and can be proven by the fact that he often fought other delinquents and the strong over weaker opponents.
But despite his poor school etiquette, he still had a respect for his teacher. When he was told that he would stand by him so long as he was in the right during these fights he took that to heart. But then came the day where he punished a Class A bully and helped a Class E victim. Like that, the teacher switched and treated Karma as if he was a piece of dirt, and blamed him for scaring his image.
That day he was suspended, but also marked the day where all these teachers became dead to him. Likely if not for the unusual situation that arose in Class 3-E he probably would have never returned to that school. But after what happened during the previous year, the thought of actually killing a teacher was just too good to pass up.
Instead Korosensei proved himself someone worthy to respect, but even to this day Karma continues to watch him closely. This goes for all adults who place themselves above the redhead, if you want him to respect you, you'll have to earn it.
With his peers he always saw himself as superior, and looked down on them for the most part. He didn’t open himself up easily, and prefered to be feared. Still he made a few friends, and he was loyal to them. He often stood up for the weak but usually he would place himself as the wall between.
This was how he acted until the first final, where with the belief he’d still come out on top, he slacked off and ended up losing among his class who all was striving for the top of each subject. He didn’t fail horribly, but it was enough...after all...he was supposed to be the best. Humiliated, he fled the class and snapped. He couldn’t believe he failed. But to add insult to injury came that annoying korosensei who shoved this loss in his face and pointed out his flaws in thinking. Usually this would be terrible of a teacher, but for someone like Karma it was just what he needed. After that point he decided he wouldn’t let himself lose ever again, and he didn’t just aim high, but reached for the very top. After that, he studied three times as much as everyone else. And his efforts showed in the next midterm, as despite having no time to cram in class for two weeks, he still came out in second place, losing by a single point from the top scorer. And it didn’t end there, knowing this wouldn’t be enough for his teacher he continued to work and by the second final he would reach 1st place with a perfect score out of all 500 questions presented.
And from there on, even if the teacher isn’t the best, he would continue to educate and challenge himself. But his gains from that one loss didn’t just end with his strive for excellence, but also a whole new outlook.
He had become a loser, just like everyone else. He wasn’t any better, or worse, they were all just people. With this he began to really look at those around him, and began to understand them. He realized that his class was full of talented individuals in their own rights and instead of being a protective wall he joined hands with the class. He grew to respect them, and cherish his bonds with them. This shows in the way he stands up against Class A when they mock class E after their failure during the second midterms. He told them that the class just felt sorry for A since they’ve been beating them so often lately, but that during the finals they would crush them. “I’ll defeat you” turned to “We’ll defeat you.” And he didn’t just sit back and depend on the teacher to do all the work. When granted an opportunity to teach his class, he took up the position and rocked it, preparing them for any trick question that may come their way.
And as a group they accomplished their ultimate educational goal, which was for the entire class to make it into the top fifty.
When it came to his fighting style, he also adjusted to work as a team, although he had no problems taking down an opponent by himself. Karma is a master in street fighting. By understanding and watching his opponent he gained an expectation of what their best could be, and prepared for it. Often times using foul play to gain the upper hand. This also made him a great strategist as he took his classmates talents and added them to his plans.
One thing that remained constant throughout the series was Karma’s penchant for getting into trouble. He looooves to mess with people, and humiliate them. When Korosensei was reduced into his sphere like state he showed him embarrassing photo’s, placed gross things on him, and threatened to shove him down some old guys pants. When the class needs someone to provoke and distract a target, they don’t need to ask, Karma is already there. He doesn’t care how angry people get, it just makes him laugh. He also is known for taking pictures for bribery in the future. But he doesn’t just act this way with strangers and enemies, but also with his friends, although his class has come to understand that, that’s just Karma. Of course he doesn’t say anything harmful, he just wants a reaction, and it’s easy to brush off his jabs and move on.
Although he can be a little rougher with individuals he considers strong. But everyone other the Nagisa likely fails to notice this cruelty is actually a sign of deep respect. It’s when he completely ignores you and treats you like you’re already dead that he’s lost all respect for you.
Other things he has realized during this Assassination class is that he fears a lack of fear. The feeling of anxiousness is necessary in battle, it puts you on guard and it means you have a will to survive. But if you have zero fear, you are unreadable, and will just continue to fight even if it means death. For someone who depends on being able to read an opponent, this is terrifying to him. It’s also terrifying because his best friend shows a lack of fear.
Another thing he’s had to face is what it really means to kill someone. This was presented to him in his recent canon point, and he’ll have to explore it and come to grips with it in the roleplay.
Important Character Relationships
- Korosensei: He took Karma out of his darkest place and changed him around into someone you can tell will make an excellent adult. He taught him about compassion, how to use his skills to help others, and how to properly sharpen his blades. He looks up to him, and desires to earn his praise. But it’s not going to stop him from someday killing the octopus.
- Shiota Nagisa: Nagisa has a talent to read emotions, and that comes especially necessary to get close to someone like Karma who tends to hide under layers of undesirable traits. Still, rather then avoiding Nagisa because of his skill, Karma let’s their friendship bloom and prosper. After all it’s easier to talk about hardships when you don’t have to say a word. Now it’s perfectly natural to see them together, and even after he was suspended, once Karma returned their friendship just went on as usual. Karma has been shown to be rather protective of Nagisa early on, going so far as to threaten people with a broken bottle. But lately they’ve settled into being Rivals over the kill, and partners in group missions. Although Nagisa has dark emotions tied to his looking like a girl, he states that he doesn’t mind when Karma and Nakamura tease him over it. It’s likely because Karma tends to go out of his way to make the most ridiculous suggestions during times when Nagisa is nervous or uncomfortable. Such as when he was forced to dress as a girl the redhead said “If you plan to remove it the sooner the better.” And the second time the other had to put on a skirt to entertain a rich kid Karma continued to try and get Nagisa to use his charms to get more money out of him, such as “Tell him you’ll go on a date for a thousand yen.”
- Karasuma Tadaomi: He respects Karasuma’s skills, and although bent on someday beating him, he also desires to learn even more then what is taught. He focuses closely on his movements and tries to imitate them, therefore giving him growth as a fighter. Within class he acts lazy to try and catch him off guard but he’s actually very serious about his time with the pro. Whenever someone else comes to teach gym, Karma skips. If I had to say who he most saw as a father figure, it would be Karasuma.
- Horibe Itona: When they first met, Itona walked up to Karma, patted him on the head and told him not to worry because he only fought people stronger than him. And Karma hardly reacted. This is how much he really doesn’t care for people who don’t have his respect. It’s not a matter of hatred, it’s just a complete lack of care. Later, after they manage to finally get Itona on their side he becomes a good comrade, although they still don’t become overly close.
- Asano Gakushū: Up until the final in the second semester, these two hardly paid much attention to each other. Instead they focused themselves on the whole of the others class, as well as on their own. After all they were fighting for the top, to focus on overcoming one student was useless. But when Asano came to Class E begging them to take all the spots under him to prove his father wrong, Karma finally laid down the challenge. This gave both Karma and Asano the boost they needed, and if it wasn’t for Asano being unable to finish the last question in the time limit they would have ended on a tie. But karma realized how simple the question really was thanks to his experiences with his friends and won. Although they will never compete again on the same grounds, they’ll always remember each other.
Abilities:
With 1 being weakest, and 5 being the strongest his basic stats are listed as such:
- Physical strength: 4
- Mobility: 4
- Close-range assassination: 4.5
- Long-range assassination: 4.5
- Academic ability: 5
- Characteristic skill: 5 (fighting)
Other abilities to note is his ability for trickery and use of foul play. These should never be overlooked or you will pay the price. He's a natural born fighter, and can utilize anything as a weapon, or just go hand to hand. Akabane marked fourth in the class with the best marksmanship.
His main talent however exists with his intelligence and ability to learn. He can master techniques by just watching an opponent and has a superior understanding of an individuals talents and skills even before going up against them. This is thanks to his delinquent history and his preference to go against stronger opponents, as well as him using what he learned in class within the real world.
He continues to grow with everyday, and can be dependent in any situation, that is Akabane Karma.

Character Information
First Person Sample: Last I remember I was contemplating which High School to join, and now I’ve woken up in one!
And who knew their was a high school just as strange as my previous class.
Although I must say, I don’t appreciate whatever happened to me, whether it was kidnap or they just erased a segment of my memory for a particular reason. Maybe I saw the director cosplaying as a french maid. I heard their was some guys into that. It would also explain why they felt it necessary to take away my iphone.
Well I doubt leaving here will be all that simple. I did notice an interesting function on these phones, as well as the fact that the Library is shut tight.
I’m sure their are plenty of surprises yet to await us. So, who's up for some exploring?
And what’s your name? Mine is Akabane Karma, most default to Karma for reasons I’m sure you’ll discover.
Third Person Sample:This place was full of the still breathing dead. Not to be mistaken with the undead, at least they admit that they’re already gone, these people seem to believe they’re still alive. But in Karma’s eyes this classroom was full of nothing but talking skeletons.
His eyes grazed over the class, examining the student skeletons as they jabber on in their indistinguishable dead language. And then his eyes met with the head skeleton whose boney fingers was carving formulas into the chalk board.
So grating.
He released a breath, whose life was quickly snuffed out by the decaying atmosphere of this “classroom”. That’s enough. Without a moment of hesitation he kicks away from his desk and stands up to make his exit.
If anyone had said anything, he didn’t hear it. But it was unlikely, since the dead can’t talk.
But unlike in the past he didn’t plan to run off for a sun nap. Instead he headed towards the library, hoping to grab some college prep books which should keep him busy for awhile. Yet, as he reached the door, something caught his attention.
It’s true that since he’s started in this strange school things have been weird. But this would be the first time that he would feel such a dark and ominous energy seeping out from the cracks of a door. What were they hiding in here? The monster from the black lagoon?
His heart started to pick up pace and he could feel his hand begin to tremble. Despite that, their was a grin on his face, finally...something that will pose him a real challenge. Carefully he reached for the door, and pulled.
…...Locked.
Figures, well he wasn’t going to press. Eventually some other idiot will become curious and break down the door. He wasn’t yet willing to anger the dictators of this establishment. Karma had learned that their was a study room as well, but when he went by there earlier it looked more like a recreational area. He scratched the back of his head and came to the conclusion the best thing he can do at this moment is return to that graveyard and suffer through the rest of that agonizing lesson.
